Took me about an hour to write those simple sentences with the remote though...

That would've been useful... But mine is this one:

pressing the Input button opens up an input box on the TV, which you then have to type by aiming with the remote and selecting with the round button.

I have an LG smart TV as well, but the remote is a bit different. If you press the mic button and talk into the remote (like a mic!), it'll write down what you said.
